The Joy in Mistakes

January 1, 2012

This photo here is what I call “carrot love”, I found it on Facebook. Doesn’t it look like a beautiful gardening mistake? Just think of all the joy this photo has brought to people all over!

Or maybe it’s just me.

“I hope that in this year you make mistakes.”

That is right. Mistakes! I borrowed this quote from the Facebook page of an old high school friend. It is exactly how I’m feeling in this new year that I have dubbed my year. Ok, I’ll shut up and get on with it…

“Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re doing something.

So that’s my wish for you, for all of us, and for myself. Make new mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes no one has ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art or love or work or family or life.

Whatever it is that you are scared of doing, do it!

Make your mistakes, all year long, and forever.”

– quote by Niel Gaiman

Is it really a mistake if you are learning and living life? Mistakes are how we learn. Find the joy in your mistakes and know that you can move forward from each and every one a better person.

Thank you old friend for this reminder today, it was exactly what I was needing!

Great reminder, Joy. Hard to remember for me, but mistakes are how we learn…

Joy, I was having a case of the “blahs” today when I read a post on another site that talked about whatever you’re doing, it’s important. And then I read your post, and it seems like such a positive confirmation. Thanks for sharing.
