Giving Brings Us Closer

December 6, 2011

Closer in so many ways.

Closer as a family unit, to each other. Not only did the four of us find gifts for this family in need, but my mom and aunt donated, as well.

Closer to God.

Giving brings us closer to Joy.

My daughter pretty much summed it up in the backseat of the car as we cruised down the interstate on our way home. She sat back there, probably contemplating the giving we were all a part of and with her thumb in her mouth proclaimed, “I will never forget that – not for the rest of my life.”.

My husband and I had just given our children the gift of giving. The true kind of giving, not because they had to, but because they wanted to. It was not boastful giving or giving to get something in return; our children gave freely and with open hearts. They were giddy with anticipation to give to this family the gifts they carefully chose at the toy store, grocery store, and clothing store. All the while knowing that it would cut into the gifts they would receive from mom and dad.

They gave anyway and the lesson learned was profound, I am a proud mama this season. For that I am thankful, thank you God.

Amazing! Wonderful that they gave to others so freely, and enjoyed it along the way. Congratulations to you for having such thoughtful children. It’s the season for giving!

    Have a wonderful holiday!
