He Never Forgot to Sing

September 30, 2011

“To love someone is to know the song in their heart and to sing it for them when they have forgotten the words.”
-Unknown</
Alzheimer's Disease made my Grandpa want to sing. Mainly they were school fight songs and one was the song dedicated to the town in which he grew up. The Algona Song

Oh we’re from Algona, that great big beautiful town, right in the middle of the USA

Wow Tammy! Small world. If he grew up there, the chances of him knowing my Grandpa’s brother are fairly high. He was the wrestling coach for years. Thanks for commenting.

Their family name was Reel. Jon was young when he died (28). His mother worked or still works for the Farm Bureau. Her name is Cathy. They were originally from Cherokee. Jon and siblings went to the Catholic High School there in Algona. His younger brother, Mike, went off to the Navel Academy. Not sure what his dad is doing (Randy). He did run the Pizza Hut for years though. He knew just about everybody so yeah, good chance. Thanks again for the great memories. We visited from time to time and I always thought is was a nice town.
